spring cleaning

Spring cleaning.  Hardly dirty words (pun intended), but never anyone’s favourite task.  The benefits of spring cleaning, on not only one’s health but mental wellbeing, far outweigh the seemingly onerous nature of the tasks themselves.  We’ve put together 4 helpful and succinct spring cleaning tips to make improving your home that bit easier.

Step 1: Make A Schedule

  • Identify those areas that are usually skipped over on your normal weekly cleans. These are usually the best places to start!
  • Where are the most frequently used, and hard to reach, places in your house? These will probably need the most attention when it comes to deep cleaning.
  • Making a schedule before setting out will not only help keep you focussed, but it can motivate you to see that a clear end is in sight.
  • Set achievable targets, you don’t want to go so hard on day one that you can barely move on day two.

Step 2: Declutter

  • Did you know that ‘clutter’, and having a generally disorganised home, has been proven to add to stress levels?
  • Set aside some time to tackle that dreaded junk drawer, or sort through your wardrobe. Be ruthless, the positive effect it will have on your stress levels will astonish you.
  • Keep in mind that the less stuff cluttering your house will mean that there is less to clean, and clean around.
  • Home is a place to relax and escape from the daily grind. Make your home into the place where you can find that feeling of peace.

Step 3: Deep Clean

  • Remember – this is not just your usual weekly clean. This is the time to get into those places you never usually see.  What do the top of your kitchen cupboards look like?  How much dust has collected on your ceiling fan blades?
  • Deep cleaning places like your HVAC vent covers will not only improve your health but will also save you money by allowing the aircon to run more efficiently.
  • This is the time to move everything from its usual position and find all those nooks and crannies where dust loves to hide.
  • Always start from the ceiling and work your way down.

Step 4: Make It Fun!

  • Put on some music and dance like no one can see you!
  • Always remember WHY you’re doing a spring clean.
  • Keep in mind how amazing you’re going to feel when you can return to a home you’re truly proud of.
  • Invite some friends around to marvel at your beautiful, organised, decluttered, sparkling palace. Sit back and appreciate the amazing effort you’ve put in.
